We are a Generation that is known to be expressive, sometimes too expressive. We are also the generation that seems to have our empathy out through the window, especially in online interactions. This is something that Asbel Kiprop can very well attest to. The Three-time world 1,500m champion gave a very poor performance on the last day of the Rio Olympics. He took the sixth position while Fellow Kenyan Athlete Ronald Kwemboi came in last on the same race.
This did not go well with Kenyans who took to social Media making fun of him and even hurling insults his way for what was clearly a poor performance. They are an unpatriotic lot that seem to have forgotten about the pride that Asbel Kiprop has brought to Kenya with his previous wins. Anyone who has been on the unfortunate end of online bullying can bear witness to the emotional and psychological distress it is. The athlete is no exception. When he could no longer take it lying down, he made a very emotional appeal to Kenyans to remember that he is one of our own.
This is the post he made.
Other Famous personalities who came to his defense are Carol Radull and Collins Injera with the #IamwithAsbelKiprop. He is a National Hero.
. We cannot be quick to forget about the disaster that our team to Rio has been. It has been marked by what was clearly very corrupt practices and mismanagement of public office.Kenyans should unite with these National Heroes and Demand accountability and resignation from the Management that Led the Team to Rio
